"ABA, PBS, CBT and Other Myths #ActuallyAutistic Folks See Thru"
If Ever a Subject NEEDED a Podcast...
Nearly all behavioral and cognitive techniques have proved useless for me. Think CBT. Think Cognitive Therapy. Think ABA, PBS, XYZ…

Let’s review...
All behavioral techniqued involve these executive functions….
deciding, switiching course, comparing and evaluating…
naturally even more.
They also require establishing new habits…
Superior intereoception…
And we haven’t even tackled overcoming the ruts that traumatic stress create in the brain. From living in an autism-hostile world.
What these behavioral techniques did for me? Transferred wealth to the professional class.
Nothing more.
Oh...
And did I mention that consistency & persistance are laughable for this spoonie?
Naturally, ABA, PBS, XYZ... make absolutely NO SENSE WHATSOEVER to this #AdutisticAdult #AutisticElder of 70 years...
Thinking a podcast... "ABA, PBS, CBT and Other Myths #ActuallyAutistic Folks See Thru" or some SEO-friendly version of that....
OK... gonna touch the Third Rail of Autistic Advocacy...
Are autistic therapists & coaches of value... without expensive, time-consuming, ongoing, wrap-around support...
For all of us... for most of us... for any of us?
Do lists, rules, systems, habits work for neurotypes with diminished executive functioning?
A little looser than usual this post. But I’m pissed off… and didn’t want to loose the energy…

“Replication Crisis” The replication crisis in psychology refers to concerns about the credibility of findings in psychological science. The term, which originated in the early 2010s, denotes that findings in behavioral science often cannot be replicated: Researchers do not obtain results comparable to the original, peer-reviewed study when repeating that study using similar procedures. For this reason, many scientists question the accuracy of published findings and now call for increased scrutiny of research practices in psychology.
“Leaning into the replication crisis: Why you should consider conducting replication research” The inability to reproduce the results of psychological and other social psychological research is so dire… they advertise job opportunities for checking fraud.
Totally get the frustration with behavioral techniques that just don’t cut it. The whole "let’s create new habits" thing feels almost laughable when executive dysfunction and trauma are constantly in the way. I’m right there with you, these approaches often feel more like a way to transfer money to professionals than actual help. The podcast idea? Genius.
